Carlye + Travis – Washington, DC Engagement

Sometimes in life and in business, you meet people you just click with. Something about their personality, their story, their vibe, just resonates with yours and you know you’re in for a good time. From the moment Carlye emailed me and told me about how she and her fiancé Travis met and fell in love, I knew that I not only wanted to photograph them, but be friends with them, too! I’ll let Carlye tell the story.

“My fiance and I met 4 years ago on Tinder (go figure!). Roughly a month prior to meeting, I was in California for work and visited the famous Santa Monica Pier. I love the movie “Big” and couldn’t wait to find Zoltar on the pier to make a wish – that wish being that I find a guy that makes me laugh every day and would be my soulmate. To this day, I still have the fortune card from Zoltar.

When I got home from that trip, I decided to join Tinder after no success on Match.com (both my sisters met their husbands on Match). Travis, my fiance, was my first and only date through that dating app. He had just moved to DC from Richmond and we had bonded over our love for live music and jam bands. Prior to meeting, I introduced him to the band Alt-J, who happened to be playing at 9:30 Club that month. The show was sold out, but I so wanted that to be our first date so badly, so I told a little fib – said that I had a friend at 9:30 Club that could hook us up with tickets (I ended up spending $200 on those tickets!). We met at American Ice Co. for dinner and then headed to 9:30 Club. After the show, Travis was ready to head home, but I convinced him to stay out for just “one” more drink. I later found out he knew I was the one when I wasn’t ready to let the party (date) end.”

We met up for their engagement session at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, who were ever so gracious to let us in before that night’s act arrived. Once we were finished exploring every corner of the club, we walked over to American Ice Co. Carlye worked so hard to secure locations that were important to herself and Travis, and it resulted in some unique photos that I hope they will cherish for years to come.

Carlye and Travis, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your lives in this way, for laughing at my dumb jokes, and for being so darn fun! Bring on the wedding!!
